Default stencils in odd places

Did anyone else receive the felt heart shaped ornament in the mail from the American Heart Assoc? When I opened the envelope the first thing I thought was Wow! this would make a great quilting stencil. It's 3 concentric hearts. Trace these and you would have continuous line quilting stencil and just wave a line of stitching between them. Does anyone else get these strange ideas from everyday things?

All the time but now I am curious about your heart design.

Sorry my computer and camera don't play well together. It's about 3" X 3" heart with 2 smaller outlines cut out inside the larger heart but all connected at the top. Trace each line and its continuous quilting.

I get lots of wonderful ideas, and some very strange ones too! The hearts sounds cute!

Sounds like a great idea. Isn't it fun to think outside the box?

I've used cookie cutters to trace quilting motifs and for my boys' quilts when they were younger, I found simple truck, train and emergency vehicle images on a fold out card at a teacher supply store. I use things like that more often than a regular stencil--who would've guessed?

Yes, sometimes ideas just come from out of the box. I look at tiles and say, what a great quilt that would make.

I love to get ideas like this. I did not receive the heart but I did use my xmas tree stencil to make a card for a gift.

I made a Bob the Builder quilt a long time ago. There were open end wrenches printed on the panel. I traced one of them. Made a stencil from a folder and used that to hand quilt the panel in the open areas. It turned out really cute.

Lids off heart shaped candy boxes, round lids, saucers, plates, etc. squares from dishes, also cookie cutters, odd shaped tins, etc. I even got one from the inside of the door on a car we had. It worked beautifully! Just look around you, there are designs everywhere!
