Default Sticky quilting/sewing tape

Has anyone heard about a sticky tape that you put on edges of quilt top to keep the frayed edges together when sewing them up? I've not heard about this before, but someone asked me about it .

Haven't heard of the tape. I just zig zag the edges after the top is complete. This prevents fraying and also keeps the seams from separating while sandwiching and quilting.

I sew a larger machine stitch about 1/8" in around the edge of the quilt.

I have heard of different adhesive tapes to help with the seams but now that I think about it, i bet painters tape would work well for this.. it would have to be a tape that would rip easily and not have a lot of stickiness.
