It was a good day
Yesterday my quilting guild held there first quilter's/crafter's rummage sale. I sold a lot of stuff I know I will never use as well as some older fabric and other crafting supplies.
The best part was, one of the women was selling beautiful LQS fabric for $2 a yard!!! I didn't go overboard but I bought some great fabric for a great price.
I earned enough money to keep me in supplies for a long time.

That sounds great - a rummage sale for sewing! My daughter has convinced me to stop going to rummage sales because I buy but never use the stuff I bring home. But a sewing rummage sale would be so much fun.

Our guild does a silent auction - items are donated with a base price set. For 30-40 minutes bids are placed (and raised) on sheets with each item. At the end of that period, unsold items may be claimed by the original donor or the base price lowered and offered to the membership (it was rowdy this year). All proceeds go to the guild.
At our quilt show, we also have an area (blanking on what we call it) where small items may be sold with a portion (10-15%) going to the guild and the rest to the quilter - another great way to cull unloved items or earn some pin money selling handmade items. As a courtesy to the vendors though, we don't sell fabric bundles - those get donated to the raffle baskets.

A guild I belonged to in another city did a garage sale before and after one regular meeting each year. There was no charge for a table -- just a great opportunity to exchange. It was great fun! My current guild has a live auction once every two years as the program of the meeting. All proceeds are donated to the guild, and the money is usually used for speakers or our charity quilting. That also is great fun with tons of goodies sold, and one of our members acts as the auctioneer.
