stumped on what pattern to use for flannel queen bed quilt w plaids
I have about 8 different flannels in grays and blacks (plaids, stripe, solid, pin dot, herringbone) and 2 flannels with red and black hounds tooth and red and black plaid. I need to make a queen size quilt. It is for my dgg and her dh and they prefer simple designs or geometric. These are the colors they like. I have only used flannels for rag quilts or for backs of quilts but have never pieced a quilt top with flannel. any suggestions with be greatly appreciated. I Have 1 and 1/2 yards of each fabric. Thank you!

How about the Double Slice quilt pattern from Missouri Star Quilt Company? It uses a layer cake but you could easily cut your fabrics into 10" squares. At the end of the video, she shows a black and white and red quilt made using this method. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxC-0T5lXw4

I use tons of flannel! LOL Usually because I am making quilts and/or pillowcases for children and it is so soft and comforting. I always prewash. And I have used many many designs, I guess I ignore the fact that it is flannel and just make whatever I like. So pick a pattern you like and go for it! Have fun!

A few years ago I saw a beautiful, simple flannel quilt at a quilt show. The quilter had taken a simple bear paw block and enlarged it, them put a simple border around it. It looked very cozy and inviting.

Jenny Doan from Missouri Star Quilt Company did a quilt using a layer cake and made stars. I love it! I am going to make it because it is so easy and so so pretty! You can cut 10" blocks and do the same. I loved her quilt. And it made a very big quilt. I can't remember the size of each block, but it was something like 25". Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tkm3nCferp4&feature=fvsr It's something like 70"x100".
