I don't think you'd go wrong using the same fabric in different colors. In the case of this pattern, which is fabulous by the way, I think it is striking because there isn't the kind of variation you'd see with all different colors/patterns.

I'm doing a quilt for a class called Lucky Stars that I decided to do in all the same fabric but with different colors. I haven't started it yet but I think it will work very well. I chose Moda Marble Swirls in the twelve color wheel colors.

Does he have a favorite color(s),? favorite sports team?. You can use those colors as the main colors in your backgrounds and then used a variety of other coordinating fabrics for the other designs.

Okay, I should've clairfied that the colors in the picture are going to be the colors of the quilt. The problem is finding fabrics in those colors that aren't completely solid (which is what I typically go for) or aren't really girly or floral since it is going to a guy.

Hey,
The quilt is perfect as a comforting gift. Moda has a design called "Origins" which has the combination of colors you show in your diagram. It would be perfect if you use the designs in that line alone or combine with others. Either way, you simply must look at Origins.
Bless you for sharing your talents with others.

That will be very pretty. I made one in fossil ferns. Turned out gorgeous.
