I am going to make a red, white and blue quilt and it must be finished by June 7th, so I plan to start cutting tomorrow. My idea is to make a big star in the middle and then form zig zags with hst. My problem is what color do you all think I should make the star, ( I am leaning towards blue ). The only colors I will use are red, white and blue. Thanks in advance for any and all ideas.

I'm Canadian, and you're American ... aren't your stars white, when putting those three colours together!! :)

I would do a search here for the Carpenter's star thread. Very much like you descibe what you'd like to do. You could change out the layout to suit your star color choice. It's also described as a '4 hour quilt'. Not quite sure about that but the directions have multiple sizes listed. I just started a couple of days ago and don't have much concentrated time to work on it but it actually does make up very quickly.

I just finished one and I put three flags in it. For the field in the flag I use a navy blue with red, white and cream stars in the fabric then I used red and white for the stripes. Then I made all half sq. triangles 8" finished and did a zig zag effect thruout the quilt. It turned out beautiful (my own opinion) and will be given to my brother at Christmas as he is retired from the Navy. Oh the 1/2 sq triangles were all red, white and blue randomly chosen from fat qtrs that I had purchased.
