All the converted sweatshirt jacket patterns that I've seen all cut off the ribbings.
I happen to like the ribbings.
Does anyone leave them on when they make these?
I've never made any yet but I'm gearing up to make a few for fall and I guess I'm wanting reassurance. :-)

I've never made one but think it would be easier to remove the ribbing, create your masterpiece then sew the ribbing back on. Just a thought. Post your pictures, I need some good ideas. Have fun.

I made one for my MIL and I took the sleeves off and then serged them back on when I had the quilted part done and I don't see any reason you couldn't do the same thing with the ribbings. Be sure you are using a sweatshirt one size too large if you use this method because it does get smaller when you put it all back together.

The ones I have made cover the sleeve too; and I did take the ribbing off of the cuffs. The last ones had the ribbing on the bottom fall straight rather than pull in so I left that on.

I was working on mine yesterday (guild project UFO) and I'm not cutting the ribbing off the bottom or sleeves...the ones the girls have been showing just don't hang right and are too big around the bottom...I'm putting a zipper down the front of mine too.

I think that with the ribbing it would need a zippered front. I don't see why you can't make it any way you want, afterall it's your creation. Being rather tall I don't like to have anything cut off because it usually makes things too short.

I took the ribbing off mine because that was why I didn't wear the sweatshirt in the first place, ribbing was too tight. But it is your sweatshirt jacket, make it any way you like it. I have never seen the sweatshirt police so I'm guessing there aren't any.

The choice if yours. In fact we were talking about ths yesterday, my friend used to teach sweatshirt classes,
She said which ever suits your taste if OK. She alwasy leaves ribbing on hers as she is tall.

    Oh I like your photo.
I hadn't even thought of just doing the front and back and leaving the sleeves alone. Like it! I think I'll try that.
    Thanks

I'm tall too so I guess leaving the bottom ribbing on is a good idea after all.
