I don't see an Alt key on my Mac, guess I'll just keep typing them out.

Alt on Mac is also 'option'. But the same codes don't work for mac as for windows.

Google character symbol unicodes for Mac, and see if that gets you anywhere.

For degree º on a Mac, just click alt and numeral 0 = º
for cent sign ¢ , click alt and click on $ sign=¢
Starting to make ¢'s to me and I would not have tried it if you didn't mention how to do it on a pc THANK YOU

Another symbol is the cents '¢' symbol. Simply press down the 'Alt' button with one hand, punch in the numbers 155, release the 'Alt' button and like magic the cent '¢' symbol will appear.

I hope this helps someone, it is just a little knowledge and timesaver.
Boo hoo, I can't make it work - is it because I have Windows XP?
Make sure your keyboard is in NumLock mode.
    2. Hold down the ALT key and enter the number on the numeric keypad. (Note that many laptops have a blue FN key that changes a set of keys, also with blue numbers on them and usually in the 7-8-9-U-I-O area, into a numeric keypad.)
