My long arm quilter does not recommend using tee shirts on both sides so I use a quilting cotton on the back.....wide if I can find one. Thank you for the offer. This is useful, as I had thought to put t-shirts on both sides. I do have a bolt of Fireside fabric and think I'll use that for back to make it nice and soft. Currently cutting up shirts.

I’m using flannel backing. Do you advise using any batting?

This is my first T-shirt quilt and it isn't completed yet, so I'm not in a position to make recommendations. However, I plan to use batting in mine. Fireside is fuzzy and thicker than flannel but not as thick as fleece. I'd still use batting with fleece as I want this quilt to be warm, not a wall-hanging.
