    Default Teenage boy quilt Help!!!

I gave my grand daughter a pretty purple quilt made in the turkey tracks pattern for Christmas. When my grand son saw it, he immediately wanted a quilt. So, we discussed what he might like. I thought about using a panel with a "manly" theme. But, not quite sure since he doesn't hunt or fish like the rest of the boys in our family. He's more into computers and games. So, what kind of pattern would you make for a teenage boy? Something geometric or wild looking? Maybe a Labrinth Walk? Help!!!

A star quilt. Or find out if he has a favorite color and make a sampler of blocks or rows you thing he would like. A high contrast two color quilt may be something he would like.

Have you seen the new MSQC Skate Board quilt Tutorial on You Tube?

I am making my 18 year old son a red white and black quilt using a pattern called Jungle Fever. He chose the colours and the pattern (there was on made up in my LQS.) It is a fairly easy quite that uses 10 inch squares (I cut my own). You stack up 3 different ones then cut them up and shift each pile top to the bottom etc, and sew them back together again. There are 5 different cutting layouts.

I have about 18 different fabrics I am using.

I was going to make a disappearing 9 or 4 patch, but am enjoying this project.

I am mostly a beginner quilter, with only about 3 quilts (one completed) under my belt (and three rag quilts).

My son is a nerd he would not have wanted a 'manly' quilt with a outdoors theme. He did look at a labyrinth quilt in a different LQS, but he said he would not feel comfortable looking at it. No where for his eyes to settle.

If your grandson likes Dr. Who there are quite a few Tardis patterns. If he likes Nintendo you can find Mario quilt patterns too.

I'm working on a third quilt for my 16 year old DS. The first 2 were made with his high school colors and mascot. This one he designed, it is blackboards with complex math equations, then the border will have pi appliqued around it. I figured it would go about 70 places. Find out what he would like most. I love the idea of making the QR code quilt. There are lots of places on the internet to create your QR code.

I used Spiderman fabrics and made Warm Wishes for my grandson. He loves it.

I was going to suggest this as well. It is a technology related theme.

I have also seen some great "guy" quilts on pinterest using Greys in various shades and oranges. And, they are stunning. (Simple patterns from triangles to chevrons.) I hope you have fun. I'm sure when you find the right path you will come up with a great quilt. What a wonderful compliment that your grandson is requesting one of your creations.

I know boys are hard to make & buy for! I have 2 DGS. I'm making all my DGK graduation quilts. #1 DGS will graduate this May & his bro will graduate in 2016. I already have a lot of blocks for him.
Idea: I have been & am in some block swaps. I have asked before for star blocks but now am asking for "girly" blocks (for my 5 DGDs. Have #1's top done for this May but still have to get back together). Had to think & think about the boys. Finally went stars & misc blocks. The turkey track, for example. There are soooo many blocks to choose from... One day I will post a pic.

I watched & was so excited that a guy has ideas, etc! I have made 2 of the 'skateboard' block. It is really easy. My #2 DGS loves to skateboard....
