Default Has anyone used a binding attachment?

There are so many listed on Amazon. I was wondering if anyone had it-used one-loved it- pitched it.

I have the one for the Janome 7700. I've used it a couple of times early on in my quilting "career".

It was a bit pricey (even though I bought it used), and to be honest the finished binding just looked "okay". The way it folds the fabric strip is twice towards the middle from the outside, so you actually only have one layer of fabric going over the edge of the quilt. It basically created seam binding on-the-fly.

For quilts it wasn't worth it to me. If you have projects that use a lot of seam binding and wanted to make your own rather than buying the little packages, it could make sense.

I saw one demonstrated at Quilt Canada a few years ago, I think it was the same one mkc has mentioned.... it was about $100 retail at the time and that put the bunch of us watching the demo off the whole thing.... seemed too much money although it did work well ---- but don't all those gadgets work well when someone is demo-ing them! LOL

I have a foot like this...

it does do double fold binding. I like it just fine for every day quilts, but if it's special or going in a show, I prefer the look of hand stitching on the back.

I might add, TBH, since I found Charismah's tutorial on binding with a flange Quick Machine Binding with Flange, it's the method I use 90-95% of the time. I absolutely love it and how it really elevates the finished product.

I have used a binding attachment on my vintage machines but that's the only time.

I bought the one shown by donna13350 and it was a big waste of money. Personally I was not happy with how it worked and the stitches it made on the backside. Now I either hand stitch or use a flange binding on all my quilting.

I had one years ago when I was doing apparel sewing and hated it. I probably used it once and went back to my own method. I have binding quilts down to a science so I sure don't need some fancy foot to do what I can do better without one.

I tried one a few years back ago at a quilting expo in the Detroit area. It was made to looks so easy when it truth I found I had less control and there was "wiggle" in the finished practice pieces even from the demonstrator. I opted out. Not worth spending $100 on for my Juki
