You'll find some treasures in the Garment District and Paula's website mentioned several times already is the best place to get the whole picture. City Quilter is a wonderful quilt shop, quilting fabrics and notions with a small gallery attached. It's a little downtown from the Garment area, on 25th Street between 6th Avenue (formal name: Avenue of the Americas) and 7th Avenue.

I would think any fabric merchants would be wholesalers in that area. Many years ago, when I was just starting out quilting, we would go the garment district in Chinatown in Boston, on certain days, the factories would put out big bags of scraps in the rubbish. We got a lot of fabric that way. Some good for quilting, some not.

City Quilter is great, along with the NYC fabric and patterns, some that can only be bought there, there is a quilter showcase room, in which a "quilt show" from that artist is featured. Worth the trip.
