    That's the problem, I don't have any local shops and would have to ship it back and if they can't replicate it (meaning they'll think it's user error, which it might be???) they'll charge for it. I assume shipping something this size and weight will be about $100 each way! I wish the "local" guy I went to was better, I'd just take it in to have him look, but after last time I won't be going back.

    Would using a 70 topstitch needle really not be compatible with 50wt thread and quilting cotton?

    aurfil recommends using an 80 needle on it's Aurfil 50 weight thread. It is on their website.
