    Default thread for quilting

What type and gauge of thread do you use for quilting on a domestic machine?

I love king tut thread. They have great colors and I love the variegated thread. I use this on my Janome 6600 and love it

I use many different brands and ply of thread. As long as I have the right needle for the thread I don't have any problems.

I use Connecting Threads Essential Cotton for pretty much everything. I think it is either 40 or 50wt.

My favorites are anything from Superior threads--MasterPiece, So Fine and Bottom Line. I think I would like the silk, too, but have not tried it.

I generally use 50/3 in top and bobbin but I am branching out into 40 on the top and 60 in the bobbin. Any of those combinations work. My thread is usually bought on sale and it is either cotton or polyester. My machine does not like Coats and Clark so that is out.

I originally used Guterman " cotton " thread as my machines always loved the their poly for my garment sewing. I just purchased some Connecting Threads cotton and am dissapointed as my Babylock decorative stitches went off kilter . It was OK during the piecing. After I switched back to the Guterman no more problems . I think the lighter weight maybe affected the tension

I use mostly Mettler Silk Finished 50 weight thread. That is what my Bernina dealership recommended for me to use. I would NOT use Coats & Clarks.
