Polyester and poly blends tend to fray more, and a 1/4" seam may not be enough...typically you are using a 5/8" seam allowance with these.
That is good to know. I would have used a regular quarter inch seam and then cried (or cursed) as it frayed on me.

For sewing the blocks I use any old sewing thread I have and that is a lot of thread but for hand quilting I use quilting thread called Americana they are old spools that I have had for 20 years and are still in good condition. I also have machine quilting thread for that too.

It's hard to say, everyone has an opinion. I use only 100% cotton for hand quilting. and a thin blend for piecing. Each machine seems to like a certain type of thread, and that is what works best in mine.

For piecing I LOVE*LOVE*LOVE Masterpiece from Superior Thread. It's thin and strong and my Bernina loves it.

For quilting, I use whatever works best - Sew Fine, King Tut (both Superior Threads), Arc, and I do have some Signature. One thing I don't like about the Signature is the lint that it leaves, but if it's a color I need, I use it. I have one spool of the Brytes (also from Superior Thread) and it quilts beautifully!

If you ever have a chance to go to a show where Dr. Bob from Superior Threads is giving his Threadology seminar, TAKE IT! You'll learn so much about threads and needles.
