It helps to have the bias edge against the feeddogs when you're piecing. I just pieced some flying geese and had to have the bias edge on top on some. The bias part wanted to "crawl" and make itself bigger as I sewed.

I starch the fabric board stiff before I cut the triangles -- when I sew there is no creep, but I do use leaders and enders so the points don't get eaten. I have to wash my fabrics now -- some of the fabrics have something that give my allergies fits when I work with it for any length of time. I use the bottled starch from the grocery store (StaFlo?) and mix it in a spray bottle -- half water half starch. When my bottle is empty, I may try to make my own starch. It would be cheaper.

I am working on kaleidoscope patches and just took a class.
1. cut accurately and pin the strips together matching something(several places) in the fabric
2. do not cut off ears as they help to sew patches correctly.
3. Always press your seams open to reduce bulk.
Those are my top three. Happy sewing!

I love using the Best Press and have had no problems with it. I do however have a problem with spray can starch Easy-On. If when using spray can products, you have any breathing problems, do not use it. When I have used the Easy-On product, it causes breathing and coughing problems. I know it costs a bit more, but I will continue to use the Best Press. I really want to make my own, but I have not been able to find liquid starch here in Canada.
