Default Tracking Hours

In the Quilters' Newsletter Aug/Sept issue, one of the articles is an interview of quilter Betty Ekern Suiter regarding her beautiful applique quilt. She says she tracks the hours spent making her quilts. Do you do this? I find it hard to do because even when I'm at my sewing machine, I'm not 100% sewing.

I think I am going to try & keep a 3x5 card next to my machine & attempt to keep track of actual sewing/quilting/cutting. Then I will have to only work on 1 project at a time. LOL

No. I don't track my hours. But I do keep track of the years! Tee-hee! Seriously, I think you have a good idea of hour to keep track, though.

Sounds like a plan.... but not likely to happen for me.... to be honest....I don't really want to know the time & $$$ invested in my projects..... BUT .... if I were wanting to sell anything that would be a different matter... Look forward to seeing/hearing how you make our with your record keeping!

I would be afraid to track my hours and my quilts are not that elaborate!! Though, if I were planning on selling them, I think it would help pricing.

Might be great to know, but I'm usually working on multiple projects at any given time so trying to keep up with that would turn me into a slave of the clock and I thought I got rid of that when I retired!

I did try to do that on the kimono quilt that I did a few years ago, the hours weren't totally accurate when done, but I did have a general idea. Personally, I found it quite hard to do.

I can't imagine any project taking 3,630 hours! Wow!

3630 divided by 8 hrs a day = 453.75 days divided by 365 days=1.24 hours a day. Sorry was just curious. Figures could be wrong or just a little off. Used a calculator.

I think most of us would be astonished at how much time we put into each project. It would be interesting to keep track! People do ask that question when they see a quilt.
