Treasures found at thrift store...

Congrats on the finds. I go to the GW boutique occasionally to look but have not found much lately. I usually donate to the local church thrift store as they give clothes away if someone needs them, instead of selling them.

I buy newborn clothes and shoes for my dolls at the thrift stores. Lots of them are brand new because the babies grow too fast to use the "newborn" size. I'd rather shop at the thrift store than shop at regular stores. It's the thrill of the find.

I do well at one thrift store. They have 1/2 off every couple of weeks. They get donations of new stuff from deapartment stores. I got flannel sheet sets that I use for backing on quilts. I have made a couple of denim quilts from jeans I have picked up. The largest sizes have the lowest prices, and the most fabric. I made a rag quilt from shirts. I look for high end brands, as the quailty is wonderful. Nothing like having Ralph Lauren, etc.

I went by local thrift store (haven't been in a very long time). I go look for sheets, pillowcases, material. Well, I found a cute pillowcase $.49 (in green swirl), a panel for a frog $.99 (I will cut out pieces for little 1/2 squares, whatever I can salvage, greens, reds, blacks, red plaid), 1 yd of yellow $.69 & best find yet--- a 3- tiered skirt of valentine theme, bet there's 2 or 3 yrds there $.99.... They have reasonable prices. money goes to Association of Retarded Citizens...

I think my two best thrift stores finds were 13 yards of 90 wide unbleached excellent quality muslin for 4.00 and old quilting mags for 20 cents each. I have picked up lots of odds and ends of fabric as well----always for just a little.

Forgot----buy all my books there for reading-----50 cents for paperbacks and 1.00 hard covers. I love to read and find some very good ones there. I probably have enough to keep me in reading until the end of time!

I go on days when the clothes are 1/2 off. Skirts have plenty of fabric in them. For speciality prints check out uniform tops. Large sizes yield more than enough to add to a scrappy quilt. Want plaids Mens shirts. Denim, I just got a few extra large jeans for 1.50. I take the fabric and give the zippers to my massage therapist . She makes the zipper bracelets. I don't see a lot of fabric anymore in thrift stores. Matteress covers not often but when I find them they are good for the filler in crate pads for dogs. I haven't bought sheets yet since most are not cotton but if I find any with the tag "organic cotton" I will grab them. They won't go into any fancy quilts I make but for dogs blankets and couch quilts they are just fine.

I love going to thrift shops...I am always looking for pillowcases for making Pillowcase dresses for Dress a Girl Around the World...I have bought plain shirts, 100% wool shirts and sweaters, and other items...usually try to buy when they are on special. I also do buy books, cd's and movies...such a great price compared to the regular stores. You have to go regularly if you are really looking for certain things. There is pleasure in the hunt and joy when a treasure is found.
