    Hi everbody!

I want to make triangles out of squares. Does anyone know the formula? How much do I cut my squares if I want to have a 3.5" sewn square out of triangles? Am I making any sense?

Are you talking about corner triangles and side triangle for on point quilts. Check this out

You have to scroll down a little.

    Pinot,
Are you doing setting triangles, or half square triangles, or quarter square triangles?

The calculations so far are for setting triangles.

If you want to make quarter square triangles and/or half square triangles look at the following:

You're supposed to add 7/8ths of an inch to your finished size to make half square triangles. But they must be sewn very accurately or they'll be a little small. So add a full inch and then square them up. So if the finished size you need is 3 inches cut them 4 inches. You'll then square them up to 3.5 inches and when sewn into your block they'll be 3 inches.
