The grand kids just bunched the top of the pillow cases and carried them over their arms.

Last year, my 6-yr. old DGD went as a Princess, so I got some Disney Princess fabric and made her a round bucket-type tote. It was about 12" high and about 8" in diameter with a handle she could wear cross-body. She's going to be a fairy this year, so I think the tote will still work.
