Default Rag quilt squares and embroidery stitching

I have been having fun with my new Horizon 12000 and thought that instead of sewing an X on rag quilt blocks perhaps I could embroider ( no dense designs) on the squares. I have some printed polar bear flannel along with coordinating solid colors including black, which I thought I could embroider a polar bear in the center. Has anyone tried this? Thanks ....BTW, this is the best board for help! Thank-you all!

Hi
I think it sounds like a great idea, and one I might have to try! Maybe do a couple sample squares, clip them and wash to see how the embroidery looks then?
Let us know!

I do this all the time. I use one of the quilt block designs from Embroidery Library and use one that is not too dense. It takes a lot longer to do a quilt this way instead of just sewing an "x" on the blocks, but it makes a fabulous quilt when finished.

Yes I have done it as well. I have used the technician in class. I used the single line designs rather than the regular embroidery designs. Bernini had a rag quilt kit a few years ago using the dongle line designs which wewe in their machines. We did the quilt in 4block units which lessened the bulk having to work with. There are many design disks available if your machine doesn't have them built in.

I just use a quilt pattern or embroidery disk. Sashiko works well. I can digitize the old quilt patterns, too.
My problem can be hoop size - 5x5 is the largest I can do. I used the gold paper and free motioned the same designs on 8x8 blocks.
