I'm going to be making a quilt using a pattern called Twelve Moons. When finished it ends up being more or less square. I'd like to make it longer. Has anyone made this pattern longer if so what did you add? Also I'd love to see pictures of any quilts using this pattern.

Depending on how much longer you want it, I would add long rectangles of the fabrics used in the quilt at the top, bottom and between the sections. You could break the long rectangles up with the background fabric as well.

It shouldn't be too hard to increase the size of this quilt.
However, it depends on how much length (and perhaps width too?) that you are wanting?

I would start by making a line drawing of the quilt, the way it is now.
Then mark the amount of extra length/width that I want to add.
And then ... let the play begin, and try different options, until I get it to what I like visually.

Yes, that is the pattern. Because of the circles I don't want to make the quilt its self longer. Adding to the top and or bottoms are the options I'm looking for. Both ideas are good, thanks for your input.

This quilt appears to be constructed in columns. It seems you could just add an extra section to each column and get the effect you want. It would be easiest to add the three horizontal bars or the two offset vertical bars. Since the center column is wider than the outer two, and also vertically symmetrical, I would add something small above and below the focus panel to get the length you want, probably one or two horizontal bars like the three bars on the outside columns.

that is a beautiful pattern. Will you be using it for a bed quilt? That is my assumption so am going forward on that
I think we were the last couple in the universe to go from double bed to queen size. I have many beautiful quilts for the double size.

Rather than not use them I took a double flat bed sheet and ripped it in 5 pieces. I then stitched that extension on to the bottom of double quilts so I have a longer tuck under at the bottom. Perfect.

Maybe you could just add some width to the black fabric(the strips) around all the focal points , being careful not to loose the design. QuiltE advise sounds like what I would do. When I am in doubt I drag out the graph paper and pens and draw, which is so funny because I can only draw stick people free- hand. But it really works for me.

NightQuilter ... totally agree! There are some basic lines there that could be easily added to, to enlarge. However, we have yet to find out if the OP is wanting to enlarge by a small amount or go from the pattern size to a bedspread. Totally different as to what could be done ....... ometimes we just have to be like a kid and sit down and do some doodling, and colour away!

Sounds like lots of good ideas! I would widen the horizontal strips, AND add an extra band of set-up fabric with floating narrow rectangles, top and bottom.

Those are all great ideas. Its a gift and I just want to make it long enough to use as a throw. Thanks for all your great ideas, very helpful!
