My mom used a chicken feather to clean her machine and another to oil it. I go to the dollar store and purchase a batch of short little sticks meant for kabobs to use as a stiletto to push fabrics through the machine and hold it tight. If you hit one with your needle it will split the stick and not throw your machine out of time.
