Wow is this what I'm looking forward to as a new quilter? LOL.

For me it's a matter of a very limited cash inflow process. So it takes me forever to get the fabrics together for a small projects much less large projects. So if I'm really lucky I try to pre-cut projects "kits" when I finally have all the fabrics bought that I need to make the Tops.

I love using the really big zip-loc blocks to hold these "kit" tops and found those 1.5 & 2 gal. bags are great for this. I can copy the pattern and place it in the pages right in "kit" so I know exactly what it is and have all the instructions with it too.

So I'm off so play with my "givens'.

If funding is an issue, try looking for fabric at your local thrift shops. I have gotten quite a bit. When there is a garage sale with clothes priced by the bag, I look for items I can cut up for the fabric...If yoiu like scrappy quilts this works great!!

I am also a new quilter and I think the hardest thing is looking at all of the great scrap quilts when you don't have scraps. I can't wait until I have extra fabric around.

My grandmother has been sewing forever and has a stash that you wouldn't believe. I am hoping when I visit she may share. But I know from experience that she likes to save her stash "just in case". Haha

When does CThreads have $2.00 sales? I don't get their catalog anymore but thought I was checking the web-site pretty regularly.

I had to give up about 80% of my stash 2 years ago when I was required by HUD (disabled Sr) to move to a smaller apt. The move cost over 1,000 from one end of town to the other. That includeds all utility fees, deposits, downpayments etc, but it's hard to come-up with an extra thousand bucks, When you don't have any. For my new apt half the size I pay over $100.00 more a month, and HUD pays over 100$ more a month. This was a money saving manouver by W Bush!

Obamas contribution was eliminating cost-of-increases to disability for 3 years.

I can hardly wait to see what they do to us after the next election. Maybe I could get part of my payment in a cash incentive to my LQS. LOL Now that would be fun.

Anyway, I have depleted my stash to the point where nearly all I have is brown! I like brown. I like other colors too. My sis found 3 apple boxes in her storage that were full of Fall/Halloween. (This was the end of her stash) I have kitted about 10 large lap to queen bed size.

I love civil war era, and made 3 out of my stash, before I ran dry a few months ago. (Nope, I do not work). I have a Civil War Oak Tree planned that takes 12 different browns for the trees, and a few more for the rest of it. No problem, got it covered.

Can;'t remember the last time I bought fabric for stash. But I'm hoping to free up some money this fall to start the Sampler that is on the Fab shop hop. It uses a lot of browns--so I'm off to a good start.

Great Idea! I am in the process of going through my fabric and wrapping it now, but when I need a break from that I think I will look for a couple of patterns that I want to do and see if I can't start putting together a kit. Maybe sometime I will get the time to sew and everything would be all together and I could start right away.

One of my goals this year is to finish up what I have started. It's so difficult because I see things I want to do so badly and then I'm off on a tangent. I am tempted by mysteries, scrap quilts, etc. I have made some progress and have had at least 4 tops that have needed to be quilted professionally done in the past few months. That means I only have 5 tops left to be quilted and I've whittled down some of my projects in progress. Then a couple of weeks ago my aunt gave me a top that needs quilting and a bolt of muslin for a cathedral window purchased sometime in the 50's or 60's. That has always been on my bucket list so I may start that. It never ends, does it???

I can relate to having so many things started - I have a stack of quilt tops made this summer - and a stack of those quilted ready to be given out at Christmas. Then I have a large clear container with blocks to put together - and usually one quilt in the quilting frame, working on, at the same time. I think I need to slow down and finish two projects before starting another one.

I am wondering: for ladies who have too much fabric, make kits but have no time to do them all, would they consider selling those kits? New quilters would definitely love to buy kits, it's a much easier way to start.
