I'm taking a class and the project is a batik quilt. I don't do batiks really, but I had some batiks, so I drove 45 minutes to my LQS and the owner went thru my stash and made up a kit for the class. I only had to buy one piece of fabric to complete the quilt top. How's that for using your stash? I was so proud of myself.

Good luck. I have a pretty large stash I am trying to use up, I only buy right now if it is something I need to complete a project. I have tubs full of scraps so I am making a lot of scrap quilts. Good thing they are my favorite. My problem is patterns. I don't buy many but I save all the ones I like that I find free on the internet. So far I have a memory card with over 400 of them. I know I'll never make them all but you never know when you may need that "perfect" pattern for a project.

The kits are a great idea. I make kits for our guild's charity quilts from donated fabrics. It seems to encourage the ladies to pick up some fabric to make a quilt. The kit idea should help you, too. When you want to make something new you have something ready to go with fabrics and pattern. Good luck using your stash.

Like several of you, I only buy when I need something to complete a project from my stash. I love scrap quilts, and just am putting the finishing touches on an embroidered rag quilt with Denim as the back and alll red white and blue blocks for the top. I thought I would never get through embroidering the squares. 120 in all!

Good luck with using your stash and not buying a lot of new fabric. I make up "kits" from my stash every now and then when i run across a pattern I want to make. I have slowed down on buying new fabrics but if I see something I really like, there is always room for 1 more fabric. LOL.

I think my problem is when I find a great sale on terrific fabric, I feel I am "saving " money even if I am not in the market for that material. LOL... I live outside of town, so when the snow flies, I want to have what I need.
I have many tops finished that are in need of quilting. And a great deal of charity tops and blocks that need finishing. I will get them done, god willing. But sometimes, the sight of that pile makes me feel overwhelmed.
I also have kits made up from my stash and kits I have bought all ready to go. I suppose I should just feel grateful that I have the health and fabrics to do this. Right?

I actually went through all my fabric early this summer and made a list of everything UFO or kits. I swore to buy no more (unless slashing or backing) until the list was marked off one item at a time. I did finish 6 things until a couple babies came in the picture.
