I'm taking a class at a quilting show and I have to purchase a darning foot for my Janome Magnolia 7330. Does anyone have a recommendation as to which foot I should buy?

It also says I need a "Machine with Tray"... not sure what a tray would be but I only have one sewing machine so I hope it's good enough! Can someone enlighten me?

Thanks!!!

Are they talking about the small table that you can put to make a larger sewing surface? This is the only thing I can think of. This is a darning foot for a top load Janome model.

I don't know. I am sure later someone can help.

I'm guessing you are taking a machine quilting class. I don't own a Janome, but my suggestion would be if there is a darning foot that is made from clear plastic that would be the one I would choose. Some darning feet are all metal, which is fine, but the clear ones permit you to see the entire work area.
As for the tray, I purchased a tray for my Viking. It has a cut out for your machine, and it is snug to your machine giving you a large work space. I did a quick search to show you a picture, this is not the actual one you will need, call a dealer to see if there is one for your machine. http://www.allbrands.com/products/ab...ogle&ovtac=CMP

I would opt for a clear foot and one that has a spring, too :D:D:D

Check with you local Janome dealer.

I have two Janomes, one is low shank the other is high shank. Which do you have? One has a acrylic extension table/tray, the other does not. Janome does not make acrylic extension table/trays for all their machine.

If this is a FMQ class, IMHO, for the LQS to say that you "need a Machine with Tray" is requesting a lot, not everyone has "trays" for their machine. Check to see if it is 'REQUIRED'. I took 2 FMQ classes (each at different shops) and neither asked for the tables/trays.

have fun!

I never used a tray or table when I FMQ with my machine. I set it on my dining room table so the table supported the quilt and went from there. I wouldn't want to invest in a table til I was sure I wanted to do it on a regular basis.

Maybe there wanting you to have a Tv tray. something to help hold the weight of the quilt or for your extra work space.
As for the darning foot you also might want an open toe foot so you have more clear space to see the lines if you use line in the work shop.
Just to make sure your getting the right things for your work shop I would check so you don't get things you don't need.
Sometimes these teachers have you get things for a class and then you end up not useing it.

I just emailed the show producer who is forwarding my question on to the teacher. So I guess we will see about the tray... I don't want to buy one of those acrylic extension tables just for this class... too expensive for me right now. It's a stretch just to pay for the class and supplies!

Janome makes both clear and metal darning feet. I am going to be getting a clear open toe one. if you look on ebay you will find a great deal on them. just double check that they will fit your model. I would call the people in charge of the classes and get an explanation as to what type of tray or table they are wanting you to have and an explanation as to why you need it. no since in spending money on something that isn't a huge deal and you can make your own extension table for your machine. there is a tut on here to do it. good luck
