Default Unusual Edge Treatments/Borders

Does anyone have links to unusual edge treatments or borders? I'm looking for something that isn't the usual straight or scalloped edge, but more freeform.

Thanks! Watson

I have seen quilts designed to be not square and using a variety of different techniques.

Is this video on "Facing an Art Quilt with Uneven Edges" the sort of thing you are thinking about?

There's a cute one with the block that is falling out of the quilt and it's little hands are holding on.

If you do a search on Modern quilts, you might find what you are looking for. Or maybe not. Most of the ones I saw give the illusion of not being even but it's just because of fabric choices around the edges. But then I thought, what if you didn't fill in the edges so you actually have the irregular border.

And then I started thinking about Flags with irregular edges and that led me down the path to Raw Edge Tile on walls. I think you might have to take inspiration from your design. Tree leaves, bricks or cobblestones going up a walkway. Blocks set on point that don't have setting triangles. It's fascinating thinking about all the possibilities.

I don't know about a link to take you to many or even a single place with different kinds of borders. When in doubt and I want something different I use a prairie point border.

Sharon Schamber did a quilt with loops of fabric along the edges. I think you might find some ideas going to her site.

I second this!!! I purchased this book and highly recommend it. Bethanne does some amazing things with borders.

There is a very clever video tutorial by Ricky Tims on this very subject. I watched it a couple of weeks ago and have no idea which Quilt Show episode it was on! I have an inquiry in on that one and will post the link when I find it!

Ok, that Quilt Show episode is #905. Ricky does a demonstration of this method right at the start of the show, well worth checking out. You can make the quilt look like it was bound, or not, using a "turning" technique. Very clever!
