It sounds like and looks like from the links that were shared that it is more a tieing stitch that would only be useful on decorative quilted items like wallhangings or runners etc. It would also be very tedious to do on a bed quilt as it would require a lot of tying off.

My DM used to do this on the bottom of kitchen dish towels when she first got married in the early 50's. She still has the dish towels and they look so unique from what you buy in the stores.

It's my understanding that these stitches are not tied off, you travel between the layers from one stitch to another, and only tie off at the end of a thread.
