    Question Black batting

Has anyone used black batting? I am making a black and white quilt and have purchased black batting but am second guessing myself. Should I have stayed with the white? Will the black batting "show" through too much on the white fabric? The white pieces are about a 2 in. white solid. I have put the black batting underneath and just can't decide if it would work or not. Thanks...

I have used Quilters Dream Black poly but the quilt was predominantly dark. The lightest color it had was yellow, no white.

I've never used it, but was advised that I should only use if the quilt is all dark colors, no lights and no white. Best be careful, you don't want the white to look grey.

You could lay a couple of blocks on it and see what you thing. Many whites do have some "see-through' - how many bras have you noticed under white blouses - especially a dark bra?

i've used lots of black batts- on dark quilts- i would guess it would depend on how much white there is- if the quilt is predominatly white/light= black is probably not a good choice- if the quilt is dark with only a small amount of white it might be ok-
black batts work great for black and dark quilts- top and backing.

I used black batting on a black and white quilt and didn't like the results. The batting made my white blocks look greyish--not at all what I was looking for...

Thanks everyone...I will try it in a better light and see. Sounds like from you experienced quilters that it might be a good idea to use the white. It is always good to get others' opinions.

I used black cotton batting in a dark quilt once, turned out very nice. But I wouldn't use it in a quilt that had any light colors.

I have used black batting many times but only on fabric that is of dark color. I did a black and white quilt and used white batting from the Warm Company. I just didn't want to chance the black eventually dulling the white fabric.
