I do things like that all the time. I made my dgd a bag and it had a nylon zipper in the top. I pressed the zipper and melted it together. Had to take the whole bag apart to replace the zipper. Sometimes it is easier to just make a new bag.

I "helped" a friend and she did that too. There were five of us making bow tucks at a friend's house and I could not be in that many places at once. We unsewed the top of each section and top stitched the bottom before closing the lining. Her pockets are higher than they should be, but they still work.
