I finished this mini-popsicle table runner from Fig Tree & Co and it will become a wall hanging for my twin grandbabies' room.

I need to quilt and bind it by tomorrow!!!
I will be using a walking foot, not free motion quilting. The pattern suggests outlining the popsicles, then stitching the background in 1" crosshatches on point.
You can see here that in addition to outlining the popsicles they did another row of inside stitching. Not sure I like that so much.

I can't find any finished examples of this pattern, so I could use some advice.
Gemini seconded the recommendation for outlining the popsicles and cross-hatching the rest. It also suggested alternatively just doing 1/2" or 1" vertical matchstick vertical lines across the entire quilt, no outlining of the popsicles....
Thoughts?

So what have you done? Please show & tell. I also think outlining the popsicles then stippling in the background would look good too. I have done both but I go faster stippling. As you say it’s an urgent finish and since you posted early yesterday, I’m sure you’re done.

I finished it last PM, thanks everyone so much for the advice.
I ended up outlining each popsicle, then doing long rows 1/2" apart along the length and across the ends. They crosshatched in the corners which was nice. If I have more time I'd love to make this again and crosshatch following the advice here.
The "stitch & flip" corners and the multiple piecing to surround each popsicle led to bulkiness and it was hard to keep seams straight. This is one of those times I would say that paper piecing would absolutely make sense.
I washed it and dried it to get it crinkly. Today I babysit twin grandbabies all day (!) and will get started with hanging it in their nursery.
I think I will sew Velcro across the back top, then glue the opposite Velcro to a 1/2" flat 1" wide x 4 ft wide board which will get screwed into the wall. This will allow it to hang super-flat, yet can be removed and washed.
