some people use glue on their quilt projects, as do i . i use it only within the seam allowance so that i don't stitch through the glue itself. does anyone else use the sharon schaumber (sp?) method of glueing, either as a pinning alternative or appliqueing edge holder?

No glue for me. Maybe in the center of an applique to hold it in place, but miles away from the stitches. I don't want glue in the machine.

I've never used glue. When I bought my machine I was told not to use it. A woman I know did and it did terrible things to her machine.

i use her method..a little more time consuming, but my bindings are better for it!
i also use elmers glue stick, when i made string blocks..i have never had a problem with glue. it washes right off or out..

I don't think that Elmer's glue flakes off...it seems to go into the fabrics. It also doesn't gum up my needles. I have used it on the very edges of appliques and it is easily sewn through by hand or machine. A very little goes a long way  I use it all of the time for basting instead of pins.

I was at a LQS the other day, I mentioned an idea I had and it involved Elmer's, as I was looking around. The owner had tried the basting glue and she was unhappy with it. It didn't dry fast enough, apparently it didn't say on the bottle to heat set it with an iron.

Ever since I watched Sharon Schamber's videos, I have used Elmer's school glue and I find it great. If she can win all the awards she does using it, then it's good enough for me. I only use it on the seam allowances, and don't stitche through it.

I use the glue stick and the Elmer's and have no trouble at all. It sure makes life easier at times.

I use the glue to hold the binding strips together when I sew them, but I do not glue the binding to the quilt. If you press, then pin before sewing, it holds together nicely. I've also used glue to hold faric together when matching so i can get a "seamless" looking match. I use sparingly and try not to get the glue into the seamline. Have not noticed any issues with the machine.

I use both a glue stick and the Roxanne's glue and have never had a problem with either one.
