When you are doing an iron on Appliqué using whatever product you prefer, do you apply the iron on on the whole item or do you " frame it" with just the narrow edge to make it softer feeling/looking? I now just frame the item, like the finished feel better.....especially if there are more than one layer of fusible.......and easier to quilt.....just wondering.....

I do it both ways depending on size of the piece, larger ones I frame. Lately I having been using my Elmer's glue stick on the edges (ran out of fusible) and it holds well enough while I sew around the piece.

If it's a wallhanging, I do the whole piece. If it's for a usable quilt, I frame the fusible so it's not so stiff.

DUH! I never thought of "framing" with Wonder-Under (I also use Heat and Bond light.) Great idea! I hate the stiffness caused by multiple layers of fusible! Thank you!

If it is a large applique I window. It also helps when you quilt inside the applique because it isn't too stiff.

This was just a real "Well Duh!!!" moment for me also! I'm working on a large hanging, with multiple layers, and I did not think (or frankly know about) "framing". The center is so stiff it's been really hard to work on. Lesson learned!!

I use H&B lite but if the appliques are larger than an inch, I cut out the inside of fusible which eliminates almost of the stiffness. Working on this Flip Flop pattern from F&P.
