Default Virtual Quilting Weekend May 8-10, 2026

Welcome to the May 2026 VQW. I was prepping and cutting several children's kits this afternoon. Got an early start on the VQW! I have several projects laid out that I could work on the next couple days--machine applique, adding borders to a couple quilts, sewing rows together, machine embroidery, finish a couple Annie's bags. And of course, the never-ending sorting/organizing. We've been in the "new" house for eleven months yet and still not organized. I keep saying one of these days. As long as I'm able to actually use my machines, I just work around the mess!

So what are you all working on this weekend?

Next month's VQW will be June 19-21.

Oh, goodness, I was just passing by and here you are with our next VQW. I will be working on a graduation quilt. A very simple square in a square using my scraps from my batik bin. I have 50 finished and need about that many more. So this is cut and stitch weekend. Should I get that done or if I get bored with making the same block over and over, I have a UFO that is awaiting my attention.

Come on in everyone, join us for a virtual weekend of quilting and other projects.

VQW how nice! Thanks for getting us together to share.

I've been in a quilting low the last couple of months, just been a slug since I finished this year's Bonnie Hunter project. I have my "next" project planned but I've been looking for a missing quilt book and some paper pieced patterns I drew out long ago. I know they got moved and I had them out and I've been looking for them ever since. Finally yesterday as part of my current clean up/organize project I found the paper patterns, the book is still missing but it was the graphs I needed -- they were in a semi-logical if entirely wrong place.

Anyway, short form is that I will be doing clean up type stuff this weekend. It may not be fun but it is necessary. So I would love to see pictures of the wonderful stuff all of you are doing.

I'll be working on my scrap tub of leftover jelly roll pieces....just have to whittle this tub down somehow. I've already made 9 patch blocks, and four patches that have extra rounds on each side that look like semi-potato chips blocks, The tub isn't getting any smaller! I've come across more than a few black with white strips and white with black that I'm trying to think of something different to do with. Plus I have a smaller tote of 1 1/2" strips that I have an idea for. So I'll be sewing up lots of blocks to use somewhere further down the line.

I'm going to try and get some in. I need to mark my quilting pattern on my top since I will be doing FMQ with on my mini frame. First time for me on a real quilt and I don't want to rip anything out because if I am not consistent. I also need to press and sew my backing together. We will see how much I get accomplished with everything else that goes on in a day.

    Cheers,
    Shari

Hello everyone! Happy to spend the weekend together with you. I'll be working on two projects: one is hand piecing a EPP top and the other is a long time UFO wallhanging at my machine. The EPP is an on going project I acquired from a fellow quilter on the Board. The wall hanging is day lilies in a water pitcher and machine appliqued.

Well, today I'm taking the day off with my sister to do our bi-weekly shopping. We hit the thrift store first, then one of our local grocery stores, then back home here for lunch. Then my sister has a double nail appt so I'll be stitching my blocks into rows. I've already got the 1st 3 rows put together and have the last 3 rows to put together, take all the paper off as they were all paper pieced, then combine the 2 sets of rows. Add the border and hang it up to quilt later as I have no idea how I'm going to quilt it. I made the Cog in a Wheel patter for a gentleman in my congregation in fabrics with metallics of copper, silver and golds with a background of mottled greys. I plan on using the scraps to make up the piped binding just to use them up and to add a little bit more color. Hopefully I'll have this bad boy ready to hang up by the end of tomorrow. Wish me luck. I finished the last of the blocks yesterday working all day long to get them finished.

    Good morning, all!
Raggiemom, I have rearranged my workroom space so many times. It is never ending!
I have 4 blocks made from YT video, but their pattern that I copied has 4 points converging in corner that I want to be the center. Too much bulk . So, I drew a new design to try today. Not sure the direction of this quilt. I am designing as I go. Ideas are swirling around.
I have the next pixel quilt kitted, but I am not ready to start another one yet. Once I start one, it is a commitment to the process. I made the cross stitch piece, a colorful marlin, and it is cute! I'll snap some pics before I start working.

Oh good it started early thanks! I might get some stitching in this morning on Common Ground, a tutorial recently on Missouri *.. i decided to try it scrappy, so have 4 blocks made and think it will be fun, just the white is a constant.
This afternoon I get to attend a Mother’s Day tea at my GD’s daycare, then babysit her later, and tomorrow I get to go to a special “strings” performance and lunch out at a lovely garden, that I haven’t been to in years. Maybe Sunday will bring some more stitching. I did fuse some crows from a free mug-rug tutorial, IF I like them when finished I will pop them into the mail for a friend.
