Missouri Star has a homey-looking tutorial that you could adapt to your colours for a wall hanging/ table runner. You could even do placemats. It looks quick.

Thank you everyone. I am looking more for modern ideas...low volume/gray instead of primitive. I can come up with a pattern, guess I'm more stumped on fabrics. I even hit the thrift store today, hoping to find some chambray/faded shirts, but no luck...
