Try looking at Bonnie Hunter "de-boning a shirt" and see if it helps. http://quiltville.com/

I ended up changing up the design up a bit. I'm not going to make the super complicated Memory Block in the center anymore...I picked an "easier" look-alike. (I know, I'm a whimp). Aaaaaand, I switched to a 10.5" finished block measurement instead of 10". I didn't want the pieces I would be working with to be too small, so I increased just a little.

I spent a couple of hours cutting yesterday, and I'll be back at it today. Once I get everything ironed and cut, I'll start sewing!!! I'm so excited that it's worth all the pain in my shoulder blades! I swear I pinched a nerve up there yesterday hunched over my kitchen table!

Will we get to see the finished project? Hope so -- sounds very nice and unique.

I spent some time last night in front of the tv with my markers, some paper, and my wee little quilt design brain. hehehe
Here is my favorite layout:

Initially I wasn't doing any bordering around the blocks...I might add a border all around the entire finished quilt...maybe...what do you think? Should I add some 2.5" strips around all the blocks? Should I add a border around the whole quilt? Please note, that it would have to be store bought material, either black or OD Green.

The white blocks are pictures I plan on getting printed and then will get green borders to make them the correct size. The grey one is an actual t-shirt I have, his PT shirt. And, the two weird little green blocks that look like they have pockets drawn on them...those are actual pockets with his name tag on one and the other has his drill sergeant badge and his wings as well.
