    Hello all,
I wan to make a queen size quilt for my bed.

Just wondering the width the batting should be? Can I buy the 45" wide and sew a seam down the middle of it to connect to another piece? Or sshould I buy the 120" wide and cut off what I don't need? I would need more than a 90" wide I think, I have the measurments of my matress top at home, I will post them later.

    Thanks :)

I frequently patch pieces of batting, so do it either way. I
I'd buy what's on sale and make it work.

The size of you quilt will determine the size of batting that you need. You may want to wait until your top is done, if it isn't already, to see how much you need. Batting can be stitch together, as ktbb said, and it should be cut a couple inches bigger than your top piece.

I have been finding that the batting is not always what the pkg. says. That is why I usually buy the next size e.g. if the quilt is twin siZe, I buy the regular. Some has to be trimmed, but those strips can be joined later for another quilt. Does this give you an idea? Can't always go by what they say it is. Found that out the hard way.

I plan to always buy it by the meter/yard or by the bolt. As long as I get cheap shipping. :)

Does anyone have a wholesale source for batting that doesn't charge and arm and a leg for shipping?

Calculate each and choose the cheaper. I usually buy the 108" and then purchase the width that I need. I save the scraps and use them for other things.

I piece batting all the time. I use Warm & Natural. All I do is sew them together one over the other. Then I pull at the edges to fray them a bit so I don't get a line showing thru the quilt where the patch is.

I have patched batting with no problems. I usually buy the 90 inch wide batting.
