Default Be careful what you think about.. . . .

I have been following (with a lot of interest) the project SuzzyQ has taken on with the 4-H'ers thinking I've always wanted to do that, but I don't think I have the energy or patience any more. So out of the clear blue I got a call from a fellow guild member asking if I would be interested in working with 2 young girls. A grampa has his 2 DGD (from CA) for 2 wks and wanted to get them involved in something creative using their hands instead of reading books and devices. I initially thought, no I'm too busy - even though I hate that standard answer. (Aren't we all?) I told her I would think about it and get back to her. Uggggg Hauling everything, pulling everything together. No, I don't want to - yes, I want to - back and forth. So my plan took place. I called JoAnns and asked for their little project room which already has everything set up with machines, tables, irons, etc. I will have it from 10 until noon M-W-F for 2 weeks. I don't think it will take that long, but just in case. My plan is to have them do a jelly roll race. I feel good right now as I really think we need to get young people involved in this art. Should be interesting.

That is very sweet of you, and kudos to the grandpa knowing he wants his babies busy and productive. And....they'll gain an interest in the craft, which is always a bonus.

If the jellyroll race seems too daunting, they could also do pillowcases. Just a thought.

Good luck and have fun!

How wonderful that you thought to use the project room at JoAnns! I wouldn't have thought of that. Have fun with them! I think grandpa should come and help.

I hear exactly what you are saying. It is hard to commit 2 weeks of your summer even when it is a good cause. I hope it is a wonderful experience for you and the girls. Kudos to you for doing something that may impact these girls for a very long time. Let us know how it goes.

Kudos to you for making this commitment. I hope it will be fun. An acquaintance of mine has taught ‘summer camp’ at Joann Fabric these past two summers. She laughs about how high energy the kids are and says she enjoys it. I didn’t realize they would let people use their work room. That is very cool.

Great! My guild is on day 3 today of summer camp for children. They are making a 42 x 60 inch plus sign quilt which will be birthed and tied. It is the guild's 9th year of doing this.

Good for you for doing this and I think this Grandpa is hoping for some creative sewing being done. Plus-the girls will be off of their devices. Great idea about JoAnn's project room. I think you will look back on this and feel so good about yourself and your giving of your time to help someone else be creative. You never know-a quilter may develop from this vacation.
