When you look at the photos that are in the sidebar with the persons name, you will often see quilts. The photo is called an Avatar. It is the same for any of the photos placed there.
    There are no ignorant questions...

    Happy Quilting!

Until I started here I had no idea those pics were called avatars. We learn lots of things here. So if you don't know what we are talking about, just ask. I had to ask too.

Until I joined here, I thought an avatar was a cartoon character on tv or movies LOL

Mine is a yo-yo wall hanging. Used to ride the bus to work (1.5 hrs each way) so merrily made the yo-yo's. Took 5-7 min for each, depending on how much yakking I was doing!

Use Google to search for images and/or animations. You might like this link for animations

Over 20 years ago, my husband named our dog Avatar. He said it was a character from the adult animated movie called Heavy Metal. LOL

Even tho I'm 68 I've played many computer RPG's (Role Playing Games) where I am the hero usually out searching the countryside for dragons, monsters and all round baddies. This person is known as the avatar so I always thought it meant a leader or hero. What does the dictionary say? (Too lazy to look it up)

Avatar: (according to Webster's New Collegiate dictionary)
1: the incarnation of a Hundu deity (as Vishnu)

2: a: an incarnation in human form b: an embodiment (as of a concept or philosophy) usually in a person

3: a variant phase or version of a continuing basic entity.

So you're right.. That hero you play is just a 'variant version' of YOU! Perhaps it's the real you and the smiling 68 year old is the variant version... perhaps?
