I use these too. They really do make a difference. They give off a very realistic outside type light. I would not go back to the other ones.

I prefer natural light all all the other bulb types really can distort colors. But if I have to use lights, I go for LED.

I'm pretty sure the "natural" lights are a type of fluorescent. Do you have a picture of it?

There are natural light fluorescent tubes, that fit the ceiling fixtures. That would give you the best light.

I have gone into overkill with lighting. The room has a center overhead light with ceiling fan. I had my son install track lighting- like Feathers n Fur said- very hot in the summer, but in a basement might be okay. Then I have a floor lamp and a wall lamp too for specific lighting, also because I tend to go in there when I can't sleep. At 3am you don't want all those lights on! My concern about a fluorescent is that like your makeup, you will never see the true colors of your fabric.

I read an article recently on kitchen lighting that suggested using a mixture of the cooler "daylight" bulbs and the bulbs that give off warmer, yellow light. You could use one type for the ambient overhead lighting and the other for task lighting. I remembered the article because DH keeps buying the daylight halogen bulbs for our can lights. I find them to be harsh when all of the overhead lights are turned on.

I have really poor lighting in my sewing room. One of these years I'd really like to upgrade that but I'm not ready to deal with re-doing a plaster/lath ceiling! I use a halogen lamp for my hand sewing and love the intensity of the light and color spectrum. And was thinking that I'd really like pendant ones for in the sewing room. BUT they do get really, really hot. I have enough power surges of my own and don't need to add to that situation. We just installed a LED light over our kitchen sink. Talk about WOW! Love that light. Bright, clear, etc. Bulbs are very expensive but the longevity expectation is years and years so it should work out in the end. I think I'll lean towards those if I ever decide to re-do the ceiling. And I think I'd go with a pendant style vs track style fixture. I have track lighting in my home office and find it has a tendency to cast shadows. Not desirable in a sewing room!
