Default What can I do with just 8 fat quarters?

I'm just getting back to sewing/quilting and got swept up by a small bundle of fat quarters. I have no idea what to make out of them. I've been watching YouTube videos but so many waste so much material. These are a pastel teal blue and blush, the blue is much darker than the blush colors. They would probably work in an ombre sort of pattern.

I've only done 2 quilts in the past, 1 star shaped tree skirt and another that I have no idea what the pattern is called but the individual pieces are very large so it wasn't a very difficult top.

I would really appreciate some ideas. I can't believe I impulse shopped so soon. I just can't be trusted in a fabric store.

If there is enough contrast or if you can add white or black background, go to Missouri Star Quilt Co. and look at the Disappearing Pinwheel design tutorials. There are lots of block designs and you can choose one or do several.

There are lots of potential projects, but I remember before "fat quarters" were common...

One of the earlier books that I have kept and used is Fat Quarter Quilts by M'liss Rae Hawley
    https://www.amazon.com/Fat-Quarter-Q.../dp/1564772691

Doing a search on 8 fat quarter quilts quickly came up with this one:

    or this site

Thanks, This looks like fun and if I get intimidated I can stop with just a pinwheel.

It seems my best bet is any quilt that uses the half square triangle. I really hate wasting fabric, it's so expensive. Back in the day when I saved my allowance to make a new dress I learned to use every possible scrap to make something else.

    Default 9 patch

A nine patch quilt would be an easy project- no bias edges from triangles. Here are some examples

    https://thecraftyquilter.com/2019/06...-along-week-1/

    https://www.childlikefascination.com...endly-pattern/

    https://www.favequilts.com/King-and-...le-Irish-Chain

Or an easy pattern is this one https://www.diaryofaquilter.com/2019...ter-quilt.html

8 fat quarters will only give you a wall hanging or baby sized quilt, so you will need to add some yardage or additional fat quarters to make a larger quilt.

One is kind of limited with only 1-1/2 yards total of fabric.

    Table runner? Bed runner?

Yes, it will be something small. I'd rather mess up something small than spend a small fortune and have it go horribly wrong. My mom has so many quilt tops in her sewing room that she hates.

I have posted this one before since it's a favorite pattern. I'll give you permission to buy a second pack of FQ.

Thank you. That is a pretty quilt and would work well with the soft colors in my pack.
