Default What did I get myself into! Any suggestions?

Ok I started making one of the circle denim quilts - because I have seen pictures on the board that show how wonderful these quilts turn out.

Well I have everything cut, marked and started sewing. How am I supposed to handle the flaps on the circle when I fold them over?

The videos make it look so easy, just hold the flaps down an sew. That doesn't work for me. Maybe I have weak fingers??? The flaps ended up being different sizes and unbalanced. So I ripped what I had sewn out.

Then I pinned the flaps down This works and all of the flaps are even - its perfect. EXCEPT that the pins are attacking me! I have done 6 rows and I am afraid to start any others.... its too painful

So I am thinking about glue do you guys think glue will work? (washable glue) Or do you think it will get too bulky? I have 10 more rows to do.

Please let me know your thoughts

Thank you

DISCLAIMER- this picture is NOT my quilt, just an example I am going off of

Elmer's glue or washable glue stick fixes everything. Use a dot . . . not a lot as my friend the first grade teacher says . . . and you will be fine.

Yes, glue will work well, but you don't want to glue the part that will be snipped. If you have a walking foot, that will help a ton! A lady taught the class at the shop where I work, and had the students use spray starch so the circles would keep their shape better.

Good Luck!

Why not try a bit of Elmer's washable glue and iron it to set it quickly. Keep it back from the edge so it doesn't ooze out or not so much that you have difficulty sewing through it.

Thanks for your quick replies!! I have a couple of glue sticks and some of the elmers washable liquid glue, I am going to give it a try! I am glad you pointed out to keep away from where I want the denim to fray!!
