What do you think is coming down the pike?
I was reading the thread called Remember When and thinking about the inovations that have come along, like scissors to rotary cutting to die cutting, etc. If you put on your imagination caps what do you think the future might hold for quilters and tools and techniques?
Maybe there will be a fabric woven with a thread you can pull and it separates into squares or triangles. Or a home laser cutting device.

I hope I'm able to look down from Heaven someday and see whatever it is for myself.
I also hope, when I get there, God will have designed my 'mansion' with a glorious sewing studio!

Fabric with GPS to locate stolen quilts, find lost campers or children, etc. was the first thing I thought of.
Whatever lies in the future, you can be assured that there will still be a great many quilters who stick with the centuries old ways of making quilts. It won't be like trying to find a rotary dial telephone or a CRT television today. I'm betting there will always be scissors and needles and pins just as there will always be hand saws and hammers and nails. Some things simply (and thankfully) defy obsolescence.

There will always be inventers-even for quilting stuff. I hope to be reasonable as to what is worthy of acquiring because I think there is too much stuff. I like things that have multiple uses and stores easily. But, truth be known, I have all the "stuff" I will ever need-just feed the on-going habit with fabric that is new and fun! I'm content with what I have.

No matter what is invented to be new or different for quilters there will always be those that say it's too expensive and you don't need it. LOL That is the majority of the responses when any new tool is posted about here.

Here is a couple that I thought of:
Natural, chemical free fabrics.
Improvements in batting longevity.
Long arms, especially electronic ones, affordable for the home/non-commercial user.
Voice activated commands on sewing machines.
Sewing machines will sense how fast or slow you want to move the fabric through. No foot pedal.
Affordable electronic fabric cutting machines that do not require dies. If you can dream up a shape, you can cut it using a computer program. Even better, you can program how much yardage you have and set it to cut out multiple shapes all at once.
