Hello,

I've been quilting for about 20 years now, and I do not use muslin on any quilt that is something I would like to pass on through the years. While we would all like to save money, I don't believe that the fabrics we use should be where we cut back. Quilting is already an undervalued art, and with all of the time that is spent on our creations, it is a waste to use anything less than we can absolutely afford.

I know that a lot of people use muslin when making dolls or other projects. Muslin can also be a good substitute for batting if you just want a very light quilt. Finally, muslin is often used in doll quilts.

I don't know if this really helped you, but it is my take on it. :D

I just looked at the quilt you mentioned here ... are you sure this is muslin? I think it might not be, even though it has that look .... I do a lot of Bunny Hill Design quilt kits (have even done a few from this same online quilt shop), and what looks like muslin is always a light solid from Moda. I haven't done this quilt, so I'm not entirely sure.

I use it for foundations for string quilts. They are so much fun to make and easy sewing. I always prewash and iron the muslin before cutting as it really shrinks! If you google String Quilts you will see what I am talking about. A good way to use up scraps.
