My daughter has asked me to make her a quilt for her twin size bed. She's 15. I've only made 3 or 4 lap quilts so this will be a BIG project for me! We went to the fabric store and bought 9 different fabrics that go great together! The colors are Teal, Orange and Lime Green (Sounds CRAZY but looks awesome!!!). We got two yards of each because I didn't know what I was making. So I'm sitting here wondering what to do with all this fabric I'm staring at now. She wants large blocks so you can see the patterns easily. I showed her a Yellow Brick Road quilt I made but she wants the blocks bigger. Any suggestions on what type of quilt I should make? Because I'm so new at this quilting/piecing thing I'm afraid to just put random sizes of blocks together. Any suggestions would be sooo appreciated!!! Pictures or patterns would be even better!!! :o) By the way, I've spent quite a bit of time on Google already but didn't have anything jump out at me . . .

Go to Quilterscache.com and look through the hundreds of quilt blocks. SOMETHING is surely to jump out at you!

What about something like one of these? You could put different fabrics in the blocks, and not have them all the same, like mine are. If either appeals to you, let me know and I will try to figure out what patterns I used. :)

I've never made a yellow brick road, but could you just make the blocks larger so the pieces are larger? The other suggestions are good too.

Hello Murphy1...OMGoodness do I love the look of the 9 patch pizzaz! Googled pictures and the quilts are stunning. Have ordered the book! Thanks for the suggestion!

    Jul -

There is a Turning Twenty pattern called "Superman" that makes a 16" block and the pieces are fairly large. We used it here:

    http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-85346-2.htm

Look at page 2 to get an idea of size - Ralph is 6'4". We will definitely use this pattern again if we want to showcase a large print.

The book is #5 - Simply Sashed.
