A lot of my thread is from connecting threads and I mainly match the color. I use a double thread, threading the double tails through the eye of the needle. That way I can start without a knot by putting the needle through the loop at the edge of the binding when I begin.

I use the same Gutermann natural cotton 50wt thread for hand binding that I use for piecing and quilting the quilt.

I use hand quilting thread (Gutterman) in the color that most closely matches. It seems to be a little stronger than machine thread (just my opinion).

I was using Aurifil, 50 wt thread to hand sew my bindings on, but I found my thread kept getting knotted. I read somewhere to use "quilting" thread, so I tried it, and now that's all I use. No more knotted thread....

I like the one by Coats and Clark best.

Are you talking about machine stitching or hand sewing the back side. I use poly thread for all of my piecing but use hand quilting thread for hand stitching the binding on the back of the quilt.
