I can see that there are two ideas there as well as a 16 patch. It looks like maybe one of rondas blocks and a peaky and spiky with the 16 patch. that is at at least how I see maybe doing them.

I would say a 36 patch with all four corners the color of the sashing which is the star of this pattern. The star points and a pinwhell cornersquare make up the sashing.

I have a book with 500 full size patterns in it, but I could not find your pattern in it. I found the center of one called lillies of the field that's the one with the white diamonds on the red background. It looks like a combination of 3 patters put together.

I agree. That looks like the easier method of piecing. Bet this one is hand pieced anyway.
