I thought about the heat set crayons but after the responses I received on here I am not so sure. Then I got to thinking about fabric paint. I haven't checked into it yet so I don't know anymore about them. What I am wanting to do in have some shading on the figure in the block so it would show up better (stand out more from background).

    Needs shading?

What a fun quilt! You did a great job. :D I've used inks that I got from Jukebox quilts. They are permanent when heat set & non-toxic. You can check them out here:

    DebJ,

I have seen these inks used and the shading that you can get with them is wonderful! This may be just what you are looking for.

Can you air brush those inks to get a less heavy shading effect?

    Norah,

You can thin them with water and it makes it really fine like shading with watercolors. Debbie

Hey now, a new trick. Sounds like just what I need for this new baby quilt, I'm putting cats on it cause mom is a cat lover so thought this might help me out with the faces, etc.

I'm gonna go look later, Debbie! Missed you Friday!

    Mimisharon,

These are the inks that are used by Sharon Schamber and those wonderful quilts that she does. Here is a link. I believe that Sharon Schamber is part of Juke box quilts along with Kelly Gallagher Abbott and Lura Schwartz Smith. http://www.quiltersescape.com/2008Featured/qe08-sharon-schamber.htm

I love all of the ladies that she does. She also did one of Sitting Bull or Geronimo I can't remember which. I have seen several of the ladies and her indian quilt at Road to California, even the one she lost in the ups truck fire http://www.lostquilt.com/UPS_Fire.html
