What size Pearl cotton for tying?
Re-tying parts of a quilt. Thought I'd used #5 DMC but when I bought new DMC it looks a lot thinner than the original. Can't swear the original was DMC and the thinner may work if I do the whole quilt (no biggy).
Just thought I'd check. When I did the original, some of the ties were way too short, though none came undone.

Thanks!

The big ball you have on the left isn't pearl cotton. It's probably Knit-Cro-Sheen, which is a size 10. Pearl cotton has a more polished finish. Size 3 is the thickest, but very hard to find any more. Size 5 is a bit thinner, and size 8 is thinner, still and comes in a ball instead of a skein. You can use all 3 sizes of pearl cotton, or the Knit-Cro-Sheen. It all works well, because it is cotton, and will hold a knot.

I used to love Knit-Cro Sheen for tying better than the perl cotton, because it seemed to stay tied better because it wasn't so slippery (shiny). But I haven't been able to find it lately and have just used the heaviest crochet cotton I can find, doubling the strand. Love the softness and suppleness of tied things!
