Default What temperature?

The quilting article just released mentions different settings used to iron non-traditional fabrics that might be used in a quilt. I've seen "use a warm iron", hot iron, etc., and sometimes even settings given in degrees, but how do these translate into the notations used on the iron itself? (other than the obvious, turn the iron on full blast to get hot as hades?) If there's someone out there who works in the iron industry, is there a standard or even just a source where you could look up a table to see what your iron uses for a temperature scale?

Some irons are labeled with the types of fabrics - cotton, silk, wool, etc. - so we select the setting based on the fabric type. I have the Reliable Digital Velocity V100 Steam Iron, and its temperature scale is given here - http://www.reliablecorporation.com/s...s/FAQ_V100.pdf

You can usually tell the heat of an iron to use by the type of fabric. When it comes to crazy quilts though I just use a low heat. If I need high heat, it usually needs a bit of steam.

I have always used the cotton setting as hot. I use the wool/silk setting for fusible interfacing and Heat & Bond.
